FocusOne Health are now offering a free mental health support service ‘Empowering Our Communities’ to help farmers and communities deal with the uncertainty, stress and anxiety of drought conditions.
Over 2000 farming businesses across the Murray Mallee district are affected by drought conditions. The impacts of drought can be direct and indirect, resulting in increased water prices, decreased commodity prices, decreased water quality and strain on a number of industries.
The Empowering Our Communities service provides support for mental health, social and emotional wellbeing and suicide prevention initiatives, for those affected by the drought conditions in the Riverland region; specifically Waikerie, Loxton and Pinnaroo.
FocusOne Health Director of Services Kerril Vowles said “We have been fortunate to receive a 12 month funding contract through the Country SA PHN to specifically support our local farmers and communities who are affected by drought conditions”
“We have a team of experienced Mental Health Clinicians who are here to support our community and we encourage individuals to utilise this valuable free service whilst we have it available.” said Kerril.
FocusOne Health are currently seeing Empowering Our Communities clients at the FocusOne Health office in Berri, Mallee Border Health Centre in Pinnaroo, Waikerie Medical Clinic and the Loxton Health Centre. Individuals who wish to access the service will need a GP Mental Health Treatment Plan referral from their GP.
